Some fashion theorists classify this type of jacket as a type of bolero. However, it should still be distinguished as a separate species due to its characteristic features. This jacket has practically no front, it is short and as open as possible. In fact, it is worn on the arms and back and covers the shoulder area. It has no collar or clasp. This original jacket came to us from France.
Literally, the expression "shrug" meant "shrug one's shoulders." Thus, the main emphasis in this jacket is on the shoulder area. In fact, a shrug is a strip of fabric or knitted fabric that is worn on the arms and back, that is, essentially just sleeves. Its main functional advantage is that you can cover your arms and shoulders and at the same time practically not cover the beauty of the main outfit.
8. Safari
This is a type of elongated jacket with a straight silhouette with a turn-down collar, a belt at the waist, two pairs of patch pockets with flaps and decorative shoulder straps. This jacket was created for comfort when traveling on safari around the beginning of the 19th century. In hot areas, such lightweight jackets were worn by British officers. They were usually made of cotton. Traditionally they were khaki or light in color. Such a jacket could not be denied practicality and functionality.
In the mid-20th century, the safari style became incredibly popular in European fashion. At first, Christian Dior proposed his collection in this style. However, such a jacket became truly popular after the release of Yves Saint Laurent’s fashion collection in 1968, which was called “Sahara”. It was then that a young talented designer demonstrated how stylish and impressive a safari jacket can be. After the triumph of the safari jacket on the catwalk, it easily won the love and affection of fashionistas around the world. It should be noted that the main elements of the traditional jacket have remained unchanged, so it can be easily recognized among other models of jackets and jackets.
9. Leather jacket (motorcycle)

In our country, such an interesting name for the jacket was attached to it because of the massive metal oblique zipper. In the West, it is most often called a motorcycle jacket. And the man who created it, Irwin Shot, even called it “perfecto”. The very first leather jacket appeared back in 1928. In the 40s, such a jacket was also appreciated by pilots who wore leather jackets for convenience when flying in an airplane with an open cockpit. A specific fastener created a double layer of skin on the chest and therefore the chest area was less blown. And having switched from airplanes to motorcycles, they instilled a love for leather jackets among bikers.
The 50s can be called the beginning of a fashion boom in biker jackets. In modern fashion there are a huge number of different types of leather jackets. Pockets, fringe, lacing, and decorative embossing can be added to the basic cut and traditional elements of such a jacket. There are no restrictions regarding the material or color of such legendary jackets. It should be noted that such jackets are not only stylish and fashionable, but also practical. This is why bikers adore this type of jacket so much. This retro leather jacket protects well from the wind, and at the same time will serve faithfully for many years.
10. Bomber
Another wonderful type of jacket that came to us directly from the military. This is a short jacket with elastic inserts at the cuffs, neckline and hem with a zipper closure. The first model of such a jacket was created by order of the US Air Force back in 1955. It was a special jacket for pilots. It was quite light and comfortable. Moreover, authentic models had a bright orange lining, so that in case of an accident they could put it on inside out. This allowed the rescue service to quickly find the pilot on the ground.
In the 60s, these retro bombers were popular among American college students. They were sewn with the insignia of an educational institution or the symbols of a sports team. Unlike flight bombers, these jackets had buttons as a fastener, and they had stripes on the elastic inserts. The movie “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise, which was released in 1986, brought enormous popularity to such jackets. The bomber jacket became very fashionable among young men, and soon became of interest to women as well. Therefore, they hastened to include such jacket models in their wardrobe. Despite their military past, modern bomber jackets can look extremely feminine and attractive.
11. Parka
This is an original type of warm long jacket with a hood and patch pockets. The main function of such a jacket was protection from the cold. Unlike a coat, this jacket was more comfortable and practical. Prototypes of such modern jackets appeared among the northern peoples. That is why our parka is sometimes called Alaska. However, it received a more familiar look after a special model of parka for the military was produced, commissioned by the American army. In such a jacket one could not be afraid of either the cold or the wind. The hood was often trimmed with fur.
The parka came into fashion in the 60s thanks to the English youth mod movement ( mods ), who often wore such army jackets over their suits in cold weather. At their instigation, the fashion for parkas spread everywhere. And then practical and warm jackets took their rightful place among women's clothing. Designers have somewhat adapted parkas to the requirements of women's fashion. They stopped being too rough; they began to add additional decorative elements.
